Why Dictionary Pages?

Barbara’s grandmother had a 1947 Webster dictionary. When disagreements occurred within the family concerning a word’s spelling, Gram’s dictionary solved the problem! As a child, her mother allowed her to copy the dictionary’s line drawings. She was given some ink and a brush. This is how painting with watercolor began for Barbara. In each creation, the artist chose a relevant page and illustrated it. For example, dandelions appeared on the “childhood” page. A drawing of her granddaughter swinging is drawn on the page defining the word “strong.”
